Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of Guardix SG® following adhesiolysis for preventing postoperative adhesion.

Methods: The rabbits were categorized into two groups ; adhesiolysis alone in left eyelids (control group), adhesiolysis with Guardix SG® in right eyelids (Guardix SG® group). The experimental lid adhesion was achieved by blepharoplasty with NaOH. Then adhesiolysis was done with or without Guardix SG®. The degree of adhesion was evaluated microscopically.

Results: Within 2 weeks after surgery, the shape of the eyelids had recovered completely in both groups. The Guardix SG® group showed less inflammation and fibrosis than the control group, microscopically.

Conclusions: Guardix SG® is an effective adjunctive method for reducing postoperative adhesion.
