Abstract

Purpose:: To evaluate the role of adjunctive sub-Tenon injection of Kenacort for diabetic cystoid maculae edema.

Methods:: Retrospectively review the records of macular photocoagulation for diabetic macular edema from 1999 to2005. Thirty-six eyes with follow-up over 6 months were included

Results:: Eighteen eyes accepted photocoagulation only. The average pre- and post-treatment Log Mar VA was 1.02 and 1.12. Another 18 eyes accepted photocoagulation and sub-Tenon injection of 0.5cc Kenacort. The average pre- and post-treatment Log Mar VA was 1.32 and 1.27. The latter group has significantly more eyes had improved or stable (worse less than 2 line) VA (p=0.003)

Conclusions:: Sub-Tenon injection of Kenacort adjunctive to photocoagulation has a better chance to stabilize the vision of the patients with diabetic cystoid maculae edema.
