Abstract

Presentation Description : Even though immune responses are associated more commonly with classic ocular inflammatory diseases such as uveitis, most recently the role of “inflammation” has been also associated with degenerative eye diseases, including age related macular degeneration (AMD). The association of pathway of chronic innate immune responses with the development and progression of ocular degenerative disorders implies that the damage induced in the eye is secondary to parainflammation. Our group has utilized a preclinical model of retinal degeneration that is similar to dry AMD, to understand how this chronic inflammatory immune response to weak antigens from the eye could mediate degenerative eye diseases.

This is an abstract that was submitted for the 2016 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in Seattle, Wash., May 1-5, 2016.
