T1 Extradural Meningioma : A Case Report JF Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science JO Invest. Ophthalmol. Vis. Sci. YR 2008 VO 49 IS 13 SP 2290 OP 2290 SN 1552-5783 AB Purpose: To report a case of extradural meningioma of a fifty eight years old man. Methods: Case report. Results: We have experienced a case of a male that present with proptosis and progressive enlargement of the left orbit of two years of evolution. Physical examination revealed appropriate visual acuity. Intraocular pressure was on 15mmHg in both eyes. The left globe displaced superolateral with significant expansion of the inferomedial orbital rim. The conjunctiva was normal in both eyes, the pupils were symmetric, with normal light reflex, the fundus was unremarkable. A soft-tissue mass of 2 x 1.8cm is located inferonasal to the globe. Computed tomography shows an extraconal mass on inferonasal region in the left orbit, anterior and outside the lacrimal sac. This lesion has reinforcement with intravenous contrast, on a homogeneous form and expand without bony destruction in the ascending branch of the maxilar without postseptal extension. Resection of the lesion via transconjunctival was performed. Microscopically we can see meningothelial cells in faeces, with whirpool zones and veins of different sizes. Conclusions: The extradural meningioma is an infrequent tumor, and arise from ectopic meningothelial cells. Are only five similar cases previously reported.Primary intraorbital ectopic meningioma have an extremely low incidence and its existence has remained a matter of controversy.
