AB To examine correlations between ocular surface parameters measured with non invasive Keratograph 5M and Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire in different age groups Prospective, cross-sectional non invasive study. We included healthy patients with no history of dry eye or other ocular surface pathologies. Patients were divided into 3 groups based on age: group 1(g1) <30 years, group 2 (g2): 30-40 years, group 3 (g3): > 40 years .Outcome variables measured with Keratograph 5M were mean redness score (RS) obtained before other measuremnts to avoid mechanical or light stimulation, mean tear meniscus height (MTMH), non-invasive tear film breakup time (NIBUT), superior and inferior meibography (SM, IM) correlated with OSDI questionnaire and age. All variables were expressed with a mean ± standard deviation and Pearson analysis was used to estimate the correlations. A total of 51 subjects (100 eyes, average age 29.2 ± 5.41years) were recruited for the study. A total of 20 males (average age 30.1 ± 6.1 years) and 31 females (average age 29.3 ± 4.45 years) participated. The average score of OSDI of g1 was 27.02 ± 14.35, g2: 21.8 ± 22.7, g3: 28.2 ± 20.4. A significant direct correlation between the values of OSDI and SM was only observed in g3 : g1 (r = −0.002, P=0.991), g2 (r = −0.308, P= 0.938), g3 (r = 0.619, P=0.026); between the values of OSDI and IM a medium direct association was also observed in g3: g1 (r = −0.047, P=0.839), g2 (r = -0.545, P= 0.133), g3 (r = 0.465, P=0.112). For OSDI and RS a small correlation was observed in all groups: g1 (r = 0.072, P=0.715),g2 (r =0.120, P= 0.758), g3 (r = 0.047, P=0.896). MTMH showed an inverse correlation with OSDI: g1 (r = -0.234, P=0.230), g2 (r =-0.064, P= 0.870), g3 (r = -0.045, P=0.869).NIBUT also showed an inverse low to moderate correlation with OSDI: g1 (r = -0.237, P=0.224), g2 (r =-0.164, P= 0.680), g3 (r = -0.462, P=0.111). The Keratograph 5M ocular surface measurements correlated with OSDI and age group in most of the ocular surface parameters with the highest results for meibography in patients over 40 years, notwithstanding ocular redness and meniscus height that had the lower correlation in contrast with other studies.
