Abstract
Threshold stimulation of the muscle nerve to the inferior oblique muscle of the cat activated a muscle fiber population with a twitch contraction time of 11 msec, and an electrical conduction velocity of 1.75 m. per second on an average. These values are very similar to those of the multiply innervated, slow-twitch fibers and motor units described previously in cat eye muscle. In natural eye movements this fiber component would be recruited late when large eye excursions are needed.
