Abstract

Although a defect in lipid metabolism is usually ascribed as the cause of abnormal lipid deposition in the cornea, virtually no information is available on the pathways involved or even as to the existence of synthetic pathways in this tissue. The investigations reported below establish the presence of such enzyme systems in corneal tissue and suggest that the mechanisms involved are similar to those found in mammalian liver
