Abstract

Purpose

To assess the repeatability and reproducibility of all 4 scan patterns (Retina, GCC, iWellness and ONH) of iVue FD-OCT system (Optovue, Fremont, CA).

Methods

To evaluate the repeatability and reproducibility, both normal and pathalogical subjects were enrolled. Each qualified subject was imaged with 3 replicates per scan pattern per instrument across 3 iVue instruments operated by different operators. Data collection of normal subjects was performed in an internal site while the glaucoma subjects and retinal subjects were collected from two external sites. After data review, a total of 40 eyes (14 normal eyes, 13 glaucoma eyes and 13 retinal eyes) from 40 subjects (one eye per subject) and 1342 scans (336 retinal scans, 331 GCC scans, 339 iWellness scans and 336 ONH scans) qualified for the study. Repeatability and reproducibility were calculated in terms of repeatability standard deviation and reproducibility standard deviation, respectively.

Results

The repeatabilities and reproducibilities of the 4 scan patterns are summarized in Tables 1 and 2. All the parameters except FLV(%) and GLV(%) are measured in um. For Retina scan, full retina thickness at fovea, para-fovea and peri-fovea are measured. For GCC scan, average ganglion cell complex (GCC), average GCC at superior hemisphere and inferior hemisphere, FLV(%) and GLV(%) are used. For ONH scan, average retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, average RNFL thickness at superior hemisphere and inferior hemisphere are measured. The iWellness scan pattern is a combination of GCC scan and Retina scan, and therefore includes all the parameters from GCC and Retina scans. Repeatabilities and reproducibilities for both normal subjects and pathological subjects (in the brackets) are shown in the tables. The reproducibilities are also calculated in terms of coefficient of variation (COV) (data not shown). For all paramenters shown below except FLV(%) and GLV(%), the COV is less than 2% for normal subjects and less than 3% for pathological subjects.

Conclusions

iVue FD-OCT system shows good repeatabilites and reproducibilities in both normal subjects and pathogical subjects. These results are also in good agreement with those measured from RTVue FD-OCT system.
