Abstract

This case report describes the pathologic changes found in an opaque corneal button from a baby with bilateral congenital sclerocornea. When studied by light and electron microscopy, the most characteristic findings were: the increased and variable diameters of collagen fibers with elastic fibers in the anterior stroma, the decrease in magnitude of collagen fibers from the anterior to the posterior layers, and an underdeveloped Descemet's membrane with abnormal endothelium.
