Purpose
To design 3D model eye and evaluate predictive effect from muscle transposition surgeries.
Methods
We built 3D model eye - four rectus muscles were supposed as rubber bands so they had their own elasticity and tension. We shut down tension of lateral rectus muscle, assumption of abducens nerve palsy. As muscle transposition procedure, we modified extraocular muscle’s position and pulleys’s location and calculated changes of eyeball’s position and rotation.
Results
We obtain degrees of external rotation from muscle transposition procedures by 3D simulation. We find out 20° external rotation in Hummelsheim procedure and 18° in Jensen procedure, 25° in modified Jensen procedure.
Conclusions
We made 3D model eye for design of muscle transposition procedures. Using this simulation, we can calculate predictive results of surgery before operation started, and also we can estimate effect of complex surgery This 3D model eye is valuable in strabismus surgery - mechanism study, prediction of surgery’s outcome, ophthalmic education.
