Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the affecting factors for graft rejection and graft failure in PKP with imported donor corneas

Methods: This is retrospective study that include 110 eyes which PKP with imported donor cornea . Mean follow up period was 18months. Correlation of the graft failure and graft rejection with the following factors were analyzed : donor age, donor sex, donor cause of death, endothelial cell count at the moment of preservation, death-to-preservation time, preservation to surgery time

Results: 54 eyes graft rejection and 42 eyes graft failure occurred. Mean endothelial cell count of imported donor corneas at the moment of preservation was 2887 ± 432 cells/mm2, death to preservation time 9.1 ± 4.8 hours, preservation to surgery time 130.0 ± 25.0 hours. There was no significant correlations between surgical outcome and donor age, donor cornea endothelial cell count, death-to-preservation time, preservation to surgery time.(p=0.952, p=0.522, p=0.335, p=0.616)

Conclusions: Environmental change and long preservation time of imported donor cornea does not affect surgical outcome
