Abstract

Purpose: To assess the presence of outer retinal folds (ORFs) occurring after surgical repair of macula off rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) with different post-operative posture and use of adjuvant perfluorocarbon liquid(PFC)

Methods: 28 consecutive patients with RRD were randomized in 4 groups (7 prone 5 hours without PFC, 7 supine 5 hours without PFC, 7 prone 5 hours with PFC, 7 supine 5 hours with PFC) and followed with SD-OCT

Results: SD-OCT was recorded before surgery, at day 30th and 90th in order to detect the presence of ORFs and to follow their variation over time. No statistically significance were found in our groups for ORFs formation and evolution

Conclusions: The use of adjuvant and variation in post operative position didn’t change the risk of presenting ORFs after RRD
