Abstract

Purpose

To compare the success rate between the AGV and GMS during 5 years of follow up.

Methods

Comparative prospective interventional trial. 32 eyes of 32 patients with refractory glaucoma were prospectively assigned to either: AGV (9 eyes).or GMS( 23 eyes-- 9 eyes with GMS &14 eyes wirh-GMS-Plus). The surgeries took place between 01/2006 and 07/2007 by a single surgeon.. Mean IOP Pre-operative was similar in all groups.(35.5 ± 4.1 in the AGV Vs 31.1 ± 1.2mmHg in the GMS ).The mean number of anti glaucoma medications was similar in all groups. ( 2.5 ± 0.4 in the AGV group vs 3 ± 0.2 in the GMS group )

Results

At Last Follow up IOP in the AGV group - was17.3 ± 1.7 mmHg,(vs. pre IOP of 35.5± 4.1 mmHg, P = 0.004) , A reduction of a mean 16.1± 4.0 mmHg. In the GMS group the mean IOP at last F/U was 20.2 ± 1.8 mmHg , (vs. pre IOP of 31.1± 1.2 mmHg, P = 0.0001) , A reduction of a mean 10.9± 2.2 mmHg. The mean number of anti glaucoma medications at last f/u was 2.9 ± 0.5 in the AGV group Vs 2.4 ± 0.4 in the GMS group(p=0.9 ) .

Conclusions

rate between the AGV and GMS was similar. There was no difference in the use of anti glaucoma medical therapy at 5 years
