Abstract
Purpose: :
Assessment of fundus autofluorescence (FAF) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) have become valuable tools for detection and monitoring of ocular disease. Presence size, and enlargement of β -zone peripapillary atrophy (PPA) assessed by color imaging (CI) of the fundus has been demonstrated to be associated with glaucomatous optic neuropathy and its progression. This study evaluates PPA in FAF and OCT compared to CI
Methods: :
Optomap Widefield CI and FAF detection was performed in 82 glaucomatous eyes. Horizontal and vertical extension of PPA was evaluated and correlated to corresponding measurements of peripapillary chorioretinal atrophy imaged by OCT
Results: :
In CI, 78 eyes presented PPA of at least 200μ m. Bland-Altman plotting revealed a good correlation between CI and FAF measurements (horizontal extension: 2.5 +/- 1,96SD, vertical extension: 1.1 +/- 1,96SD). For OCT and CI correlation was 31.9 +/- 1,96SD (horizontal) and 8.0 +/- 1,96SD (vertical), for OCT and FAF 34.9 +/- 1,96SD (horizontal) and 9.1 +/- 1,96SD (vertical)
Conclusions: :
In this study, extension of PPA as measured by FAF correlated well to CI, but only a weak correlation between OCT measurements and CI/FAF was found. These data indicate that FAF may provide valuable properties for evaluation of PPA in glaucoma patients
