Abstract

Purpose: : To investigate the repeatability and agreement of custom-built ultra-high resolution OCT (UHR-OCT), ultra-long scan depth OCT (UL-OCT), Visante OCT and Optovue OCT.

Methods: : The experiment included 2 parts. In part one, four RGP lenses with different thickness (0.11mm,0.12mm,0.15mm,0.17mm) were imaged by UHROCT, ULOCT, Visante and Optovue, respectively. In part two, eight eyes of 4 normal subjects were imaged and the central corneal thicknesses were obtained by the four OCT devices. Each subject was imaged in two inconsecutive days. For Visante and Optovue, the commercial software was used to obtain the central corneal thickness. For two custom-built OCT devices, custom-built automatic algorithm was used to obtain the thickness.

Results: : For four different RGP lenses, there was no difference between the thicknesses measured by UHROCT, ULOCT and the real values. There was no difference among UHROCT, ULOCT, Visante and Optovue in central corneal thickness (P > 0.05). The between-OCTs correlation coefficients are greater than 0.972. The mean differences of central corneal thickness between repeated visits measured by UHROCT, ULOCT, Optovue and Visante were 0.077 ± 2.256µm, -0.350 ± 2.804µm, 0.583 ± 2.394µm and -1.667 ± 2.325µm, respectively. There was no significant difference for central corneal thicknesses obtained in two inconsecutive days using the four OCT devices (P > 0.93).The correlation coefficients between visits were 0.990, 0.991, 0.997, 0.986 for UHROCT, ULOCT, Visante and Optovue, respectively.

Conclusions: : UHROCT and ULOCT appeared to have good repeatability and accuracy and have good agreement with Visante and Optovue.
