Abstract
Purpose: :
To investigate the efficacy of a technique of upper eyelid blepharoplasty that includes resection of retro-orbicularis oculus fat (ROOF).
Methods: :
Retrospective comparative case series.
Results: :
Thirty cases of combined upper eyelid blepharoplasty and ROOF resection were compared with thirty cases of standard upper eyelid blepharoplasty by a single surgeon. Pre- and post-operativephotographs were graded on a scale of 1 to 4 by a blinded observer for lateral fullness and aesthetic appearance. Medical records were reviewed for the following complications: facial nerve paralysis, hematoma, numbness, lagophthalmos with keratopathy, and re-operation.
Conclusions: :
ROOF resection is a useful and safe adjunct to upper eyelid blepharoplasty, resulting in improved debulking of the lateral supraorbital area.
