Abstract
Purpose: :
To compare the anterior chamber segment biometry according to iris configuration measured by anterior segment coherence tomography.
Methods: :
This cross-sectional, randomized and comparative study included 200 eyes that underwent anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). Dimensions were measured at 0 - 180 degree. The patients were divided in 3 groups according iris configuration. An iris over a line sulcus to sulcus was selected as convex, an iris under the line as concave, and an intermediate iris situation as plane. The anterior chamber depth (ACD), thickness of the iris, camerular angle, corneal pachymetry and pupil diameter were assessed and compared. The statistical analysis used a K-S test and Mann Whitney Test.
Results: :
46.5%, 45.5 % and 8% of the patients had iris plane, convex and concave respectively. The mean camerular angle in eyes with iris plane, concave and convex were 32.52+/-7.38, 41.87 +/-8.87 y 26.35+/-12.04 degrees respectively and there were statistically significant difference comparing the camerular angle in eyes with iris plane versus concave and convex (p < .001). The mean ACD in eyes with iris plane, convex and concave were 3.09+/-0.60, 2.55+/-0.43 y 3.22 +/-0.22; there were statistically significant difference comparing the ACD between eyes with iris plane versus convex (p < .001). The pupil diameter for iris plane, convex and concave were 6.02+/- 7.15, 4.39+/-1.17 y 5.43 +/- 0.87 µm respectively. There was not statistically significant difference comparing the corneal pachymetry in eyes with iris plane versus convex (p= 0.140) and eyes with iris plane versus concave (p=0.11). There were statistically significant difference comparing the iris thickness in eyes with iris plane versus convex (p<. 001).
Conclusions: :
The Iris configuration more common was iris plane. Eyes with iris convex showed camerular angle and ACD narrower. The pupil diameter was smaller in eyes with iris convex. These results can have an application for anterior chamber phakic intraocular lens.
