Purpose: : To investigate variation in anterior segment structures in children with myopia using the anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT)

Methods: : 100 children (175 eyes) with myopia [spherical equivalent refraction(SER):-1.00D~-8.50D] and 85 children(170 eyes) with emmetropia (SER:-0.75D~+1.00D) were enrolled in this study. All subjects were aged 8-14years. Central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD), angle opening distance in 500μm(AOD500) and angle-to-angle width (AAW) were measured using Visante AS-OCT.

Results: : There was no significant difference of CCT between children with myopia (mean±SD: 0.551±0.028mm) and children with emmetropia (mean±SD: 0.548±0.033mm) ; The AAW was also similar in both groups. However, the ACD was deeper (T-test, p<0.001) in myopia group (mean±SD:3.20±0.13mm) than in emmetropia group (3.08±0.12mm), and its value was correlated with myopia diopters (Pearson correlation analysis, r=0.273, p<0.01) .The AOD500 of inferotemporal octant was widest in both groups; The average AOD500 was wider in myopia group when compared with emmetropia group.

Conclusions: : Elongation of anterior segment was occurred in children with myopia
