Abstract
Purpose: :
To analyze fundus Autofluorescence (AF) images from patients with successfully repaired retinal detachments, by means of intensity segmentation and macular morphology descriptors and to correlate the data with functional performance, accessed by Visual Acuity and Microperimetry (MP) and with the ultra structural findings obtained by sdOCT.
Methods: :
The microperimetric analysis of 22 patients with successfully treated macula off rhegmatogeneous retinal detachments was registered over cSLO AF images. Macular ultrastructure was accessed by sdOCT Subsequent macular geometric image analysis and intensity segmentation was performed over the central 10º from the fixation point.
Results: :
Significative correlation was found between decreased central perimetry and the presence of macular IS/OS and ELM disruption (p=0,023; 0,011) and the combined findings of ELM, IS/OS and VM disruptions (p=0,013). Significative correlation was also determined for the presence of cystoid macular edema and for the angular oscillation of the central 1500μm best-fit elliptical pattern (p=0,031). Significant negative correlation between increased abnormal hiperfluorescence (%AFH) and microperimetry sensitivity (ρ=-0,1; p<0,001) was found, and improved with intensity average correction for those spots sharing the same radial distance (p=-0,128;ρ<0,001) from the fixation point.
Conclusions: :
: An increased AF signal is associated with areas of decreased MP sensitivity. Macular geometry may be altered by the presence of ultra structural abnoromalities such as the presence of CME.
