Abstract
Purpose: :
Navilas laser system uses registration technology to allow highly accurate and reproducible execution of retinal laser treatments. The purpose of this study is to report the functional and anatomical results of a single session of Navilas Navigated focal photocoagulation in treating central serous chorioretinopathy.
Methods: :
A total of 4 eyes from 4 patients with CSR were treated with the Navilas Navigated laser system. Best corrected visual acuities were obtained by using a Snellen visual acuity chart and retinal thickness for each patient was measured by spectral domain-optical coherence tomography.
Results: :
The mean age of the patients was 55 years (range 36-68). All eyes received a single session of Navilas laser. Mean visual acuity (Snellen) improved 2 lines after laser treatment. Mean central macular thickness decreased from an average of 360 um to 213 um (40.8% reduction), (p< 0.05). The average number of laser spots used during the treatment was 17 spots.
Conclusions: :
Navilas laser photocoagulation is a safe and effective option for patients with CSR especially in the area that is very close to the foveal avascular zone. All patients showed a decrease of central macular thickness, with 4 of 4 eyes also showing early functional improvement after laser treatment with rapid reduction in retinal thickness and complete resolution as early as 2 months after treatment.
