Abstract
Purpose: :
The study was conducted as a retrospective evaluation of patient outcome following Tecnis Multifocal Intraocular Lens or ReSTOR+3 add intraocular lens implants post phacoemulsification and previous laser vision correction.
Methods: :
Eyes that received a Tecnis Multifocal Intraocular implant (models ZMA00 and ZMB00) or ReSTOR SN60D1 in one or both eyes who also had a history of prior laser vision correction were evaluated. POutcome measures included UCVA near, intermediate and distance and BCVA. It was noted whether the patient had limbal relaxing incisions during surgery and/or YAG laser capsulotomy post-operatively.
Results: :
11 eyes of 8 patients were evaluated. Mean patient age was 65.5 years , 3 patients were male, 5 patients were female. 4 eyes of 3 patients had a Tecnis MF implanted, while 7 eyes of 5 patients received a Restor +3 Add multifocal IOL. No patients had intraoperative limbal relaxing incisions. Postoperatovely, 3 eyes underwent YAG capsulotomy, 4 eyes had a laser vision correction procedure, and 1 eye underwent a piggyback IOL to optimize the refractive results. Overall, 75% of eyes achieved 20/25 or better UCVA at distance. 60% of eyes achived 20/25 or better UCVA at near.
Conclusions: :
Overall, patients with previous laser vision correction were satisfied with their postoperative visual results following multifocal IOL implantation, although 45% of eyes required postoperative vision enhancements with either laser vision correction or a piggyback IOL.
