Abstract

Purpose: : To examine the six months refractive outcome of the AcrySof phakic angle-supported intraocular lens (Cachet IOL, Alcon Laboratories, Inc., Fort Worth, TX) for the correction of moderate to high myopia in a population of young adults.

Methods: : The AcrySof Cachet IOL was implanted in a total of 19 eyes (10 patients). Manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE), uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCVA) and best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) were evaluated both preoperatively and 6-months postoperatively.

Results: : Mean (±SD) age of the population study was 38.26 (±8.98) years old. The mean preoperative MRSE was -9.49 ± 3.08 diopters (D). The 6-months postoperative mean MRSE was -0.29 D (±0.41; P<0.001).An UCVA of 18/20 was achieved by 92% of eyes. A BSCVA of 20/20 or better was achieved by 70% of eyes. All eyes included in the study gained at least 1 line of Snellen visual acuity. The surgery was uneventful in all cases.

Conclusions: : The AcrySof Cachet phakic angle-supported IOL yielded excellent refractive correction in patients with moderate-to-high myopia during a six months follow-up.
