Abstract
Purpose: :
We have previously demonstrated the Univ. of Rochester Nomogram incorporates preoperative higher order aberrations and preoperative manifest refractions to improve postoperative spherical accuracy in myopic Customized LASIK using Zyoptix. This study evaluates the change in spherical accuracy when applying the Univ. of Rochester Nomogram on B&L Customized Hyperopic Treatment.
Methods: :
159 hyperopic eyes at 6 sites underwent custom LASIK correction for hyperopia based on the Zyoptix PT (Personalize Treatment) software as part of the US FDA trial. Actual treatments were performed at 100% of the base nomogram. Actual results were compared to calculated results using the University of Rochester or "Advanced" Personalized Treatment (APT) nomogram.
Results: :
Actual Results: mean preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) was +2.22±1.06D. 76.9% (113/147) and 100% of the eyes attained postoperative UCVA of 20/20 and 20/40 or better, respectively. The mean 12-month postoperative SE was +0.10±0.52D. Application of the University of Rochester nomogram improved the SE and SD to + 0.03+0.13 (75% reduction in SD). 89% of the eyes were within ± 0.50 D of target spherical equivalent and application of the U. of Rochester Nomogram improved the results to 100% + 0.50 D. of target spherical equivalent (SE).Conclusions: The Zyoptix PT algorithm provides excellent postoperative outcomes. The addition of The Rochester Nomogram or APT which compensates for preoperative aberration interaction and preoperative manifest refraction further enhances the predictability of Zyoptix PT hyperopic treatment by reducing spherical standard deviation by 75% in a similar fashion to customized myopia.
