Abstract

Purpose: : to evaluate action of subscleral adipocytes implantation in establishing a gradient of bFGF in the retinal tissue

Methods: : we perform the surgical procedure in 16 mice affected by atrophic age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Controlater eye served as control.

Results: : examinations were performed every 1, 3, 6, 12 and 18 months from surgery and an increase of retinal trophism resulted. Intra-operative or postoperative complications did not occurr.

Conclusions: : subscleral adipocytes implantation could affect retinal and vitreal levels of bFGF. Further studies should be performed for degenerative pathologies charachterized by retinal cells apoptosis.
