Abstract
Purpose: :
To evaluate the visual function in glaucoma using the newly developed letter chart.
Methods: :
We measured 22 eyes of 11 patients with glaucoma who had visual-field defects. The mean age was 47.4 ± 10.0 years (mean ± standard deviation). The measurement was performed using the Microperimeter MP-1, and the optotype using ETDRS chart letters N, V and O. We made 3x, 5x, 7x, and 10x optotypes based on 0.1 sizes and numbered them from 1 to 5. In fundus-related, the optotype was displayed at each quadrant (45° 135° 225° and 315°) where the position was 15° from the center of the fovea. And we measured the visual field of the patients using the Humphrey Field Analyzer. We compared the value in the MP-1 and the average MD value of each quadrant in the Humphrey. The Spearman's correlation coefficient by rank test was used for the analysis.
Results: :
The mean chart size of the MP-1 was 4.0±1.0. The mean MD value of the Humphrey was 21.7 ±7.6dB. There was a significant correlation between the MP-1 and the Humphrey(r =0.54,p<0.01).
Conclusions: :
These results suggest the possibility to evaluate the visual field using the MP-1 with a newly developed letter chart as an effective tool to evaluate the visual function.
