To compare the optical image quality of AcrySof IQ ReSTOR +3.0 D and a new aspheric toric apodized diffractive intraocular lens using the modulation transfer function (MTF).
Best focus MTF at 100 lp/mm which corresponds to Snellen visual acuity of 20/20 was evaluated using the 0.2 micron Spherical Aberration (SA) Modified ISO model eye at distance focus for Acrysof IQ ReSTOR +3.0 D and aspheric toric apodized diffractive intraocular lenses. Data was collected on the Optikos Video MTF measurement system with 3 mm and 5 mm apertures to simulate both photopic and mesopic pupil sizes. Ten lenses for each model were evaluated. Through-focus MTF testing was performed in the ISO Model Eye with a 3 mm aperture.
At 100 lp/mm, the mean distance MTF values at the 3 mm and 5 mm apertures were 31% and 21% for AcrySof IQ ReSTOR +3.0 D model and the mean distance MTF values at the 3 mm and 5 mm aperture were 34% and 25% for the aspheric toric apodized diffractive lens model. The through-focus MTF results showed two distinct peaks at distance and near foci in both models with separations correspond to the designed add powers.
MTF testing at 3 mm and 5 mm apertures for the aspheric toric apodized diffractive IOL model showed good image quality that was comparable to that of IQ ReSTOR +3.0 D model.
