Abstract

Purpose: : To describe the type and severity of glaucomatous visual field (VF) defects in the OHTS using the GSS 2.

Methods: : The GSS 2 computerized application was used to classify the type and severity of VF defects from OHTS participants who developed confirmed VF abnormalities attributed to primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). The GSS 2 classifies VF defects into 3 types: generalized, localized, and mixed and 5 levels of severity: 1= mild to 5 = severe. VFs analyzed in this report include the 3 consecutive abnormal VFs to confirm abnormality and all subsequent reliable, abnormal VFs. Excluded were normal VFs and VFs completed when visual acuity was worse than 20/30 or spherical equivalent was greater than +/- 5.00 D at the time of VF testing.

Results: : A total of 1,474 VF’s of 1,786 reliable, abnormal VF’s from more than 100 participants met all criteria for inclusion in this analysis. The GSS 2 classification of type and severity of defect of the 1,474 abnormal VFs are reported below.
