Abstract

Purpose: : We investigate how Amniotic membrane contact lens can help corneal epithelial wound healing.

Methods: : Amniotic membrane contact lens have ring shape with PMMA materials and 12 holes for fixation of amniotic membrane. after making epithelial defect of rabbit's cornea by No.15 blade, We have applied amniotic membrane on corneal wound. One group use 10-0 nylon purse string suture method and the other group use amniotic membrane contact lens. each group composed 10 corneas of rabbits.

Results: : There are sometimes amniotic membrane contact lens dislocations due to inproper lens curvature. but, Average wound healing time is similar with each groups and amniotic membrane contact lens group has less time for preparing amniotic membrane applied on corneal wound.

Conclusions: : Amniotic membrane contact lens has benefits of easy applied method and similar wound healing ability with conventional suture method.
