Abstract

Purpose:: To examine the role of TIMP-3 in the development of thechoroid vasculature.

Methods:: TIMP-3 deficient mice were utilized for the study. India inkvascular perfusion followed by whole-mount choroidpreparations were utilized to visualize vascular morphology. In addition, in situ zymography was performed to assess gelatinase activity.

Results:: An abnormal choroid vasculature in conjunction with increased gelatinase activity was observed in TIMP-3 deficient mice when compared with WT littermates.

Conclusions:: TIMP-3 plays an important role in the development of the choroid vasculature.
