Abstract
Purpose::
To describe initial surgical results from Alcon 23g Microincision Pars Plana Vitrectomy System.
Methods::
Retrospective, multicenter consecutive surgical case series with a new 23g microincision pars plana vitrectomy system.
Results::
A broad range of surgical indications were included in this study including retinal detachment, macular hole, macular pucker and diabetic vitrectomy. Stabilization of the globe for angled incision was achieved by several methods including forceps and the Thornton ring. Instrument flexibility was similar to 20g instrumentation. Change in visual acuity, change in intraocular pressure, and post-operative complications including but not limited to wound leak, hypotony, inflammation, endophthalmitis, retinal tear and retinal detachment will be described.
Conclusions::
The Alcon 23g Microincision Pars Plana Vitrectomy system is a new surgical vitrectomy system. Initial results and experience from this multicenter, multisurgeon retrospective study will be described including change in visual acuity and intra and post-operative complications.
