Abstract

Purpose:: In case of wide defect including overall tarsal plate, the chondromucosal composite graft has been used often to reconstruct the full thickness defect of the upper eyelid. However, In this case, the Method of tarsal plate reconstruction by using medpor(R) sheet will be introduced.

Methods:: The Culter-Beard bridge-flap technique was used to reconstruct full sized of full-thickness upper eyelid defects, in sebaceous carcinoma patient, by borrowing a full-thickness flap from the opposing normal lower lid. And then the medpor(R) as a replacement for tarsus was inserted between the skin-muscle and the conjunctival flap.

Results:: At 24 weeks, after implantation the flap was separated and there was no special problem including morphology and motility in both upper and lower eyelid.

Conclusions:: This mothod that the medpor(R) sheet as a substitute materal for tarsal plate is thought one of the good operations in the upper eyelid reconstruction.
