Abstract

Purpose: : To outline the pathway of human ocular development from the earliest visualisation to the fully formed eye. We show the pathways involved and discuss the phylogenetic implications of ocular evolution.

Methods: : Past and present evolutionary research theories are discussed and applied to the devolpment of the eye.

Results: : Theoretical avenues of development are outlined and the path of human eye development is mapped out

Conclusions: : We show the optical and biological basis to the devolpmemt of the human eye with consideration for the enormous diversity of eye development across species.
