Abstract

Purpose: : to evaluate modification of keratometry in eye after 25G vitrectomy

Methods: : 25 eyes of 25 patients underwent 25G vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane and intravitreal hemorrhage. The keratometry was done the day before surgery, at one week and one month after 25G vitrectomy. Three measures of the keratometry were performed each time.

Results: : the mean age of the patients was 57 years (±14). 60 % of the patients were female and 55% were left eyes. Before surgery keratometry measures were R1 42.93±0.8, R2 43.87±1.2 and the mean keratometry measure R was 43.37±1. One week after 25G vitrectomy keratometry measures weres R1 42.87±0.94, R2 43.68±1.39 and the mean keratometry measure R was 43.13±1.12. One month after 25G vitrectomy keratometry measures were R1 42.93±1.06, R2 44±1.19 and the mean keratometry R was 43.43±1.04. No significant difference was detected between keratometry measurement (R1,R2,R) the day before 25G vitrectomy and at one week after 25G vitrectomy (p=0.717, p=0.21, p=0.39). Also no significant variation was found at one month after 25G vitrectomy (p=1, p=0.49, p=0.63).

Conclusions: : according to this study no significant variation of keratometry was detected neither at one week nor at one month after 25G vitrectomy surgery
