Abstract: :
Purpose: To compare the incidence, type and grade of induced and residual astigmatism with Lasik, with 3 different laser systems. Methods: A prospective, longitudinal, comparative and observational study, including 3 group: Group 1: 120 eyes treated with Visx Star S2, Group 2: 86 eyes treated with Ladar Vision and Group 3: 107 eyes treated with Chiron Technolas 217. The calculation of the induced and residual astigmatism was made with a vectorial analysis at the first and third month. % cylinder correction, axial deviation and visual outcome were also considered for the analysis. Results: Group 1: The mean residual and induced astigmatism was 0.55 X 178.8 and 1.82 X 180 at the 3rd month. Group 2: The mean residual and induced astigmatism were 0.84 X 179.6 and 1.39 X 10.5 at the 3rd month respectively. Group 3: The mean residual and induced astigmatism were 0.62 X 164 and 1.82 X3.68 at the 3rd month respectively. The visual outcome was better for group 3. Conclusions: The Visx group showed the major stability of all systems. All the technologies studied showed good results treating low astimatisms. Each one of the them has their approved indications, so each case needs to be individualized.
