Abstract

Abstract: : Purpose: To provide clinical description and histopathologic correlation of a stage II macular hole Methods: A case report with clinical examination and color photographs and histopathologic examination with light microscopy Results: Clinical appearance of a stage II macular hole in this patient corresponded with intraretinal splitting which extended beyond an area of retinal defect. Conclusions: Retinal defect associated with a surrounding area of intraretinal split may be a pathway in evolution of a macular hole. This finding supports Kishi and Gaudric's theories of macular hole pathogenesis based on their OCT studies.
