Abstract

Abstract: : Purpose: To describe the baseline characteristics of 303 patients enrolled in the TTT4CNV clinical trial. The study is being done to evaluate the safety and efficacy of transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) in the treatment of occult CNV. Methods: Review of data obtained from the baseline assessment of patients who were enrolled in this clinical trial. Results: The mean age of enrolled patients was 79 years; 61% of enrollees were women and almost all (99%) were white. The average visual acuity was 54 ETDRS letters (20/80). 22% of patients had a family history of age–related macular degeneration. Pure occult CNV was observed in 80% of patients. Conclusions: Patients enrolled in the TTT4CNV clinical trial have baseline characteristics that are similar to those enrolled in other prospective studies of age–related macular degeneration associated with CNV.
