Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the use of the ALLEGRETTO-WAVE excimer laser system(Wavelight, Germany)and M2 microkeratome(Moria, France) in our LASIK clinical practice. Methods:120 consecutive eyes underwent LASIK for hyperopia or hyperopic astigmatism. Pre- and post-operative refractive error, UCVA and BCVA were evaluated. In addition, high order aberrations at post-operative day#1, and post operative months #3, #6 and #12 were performed. The data are from standard, non-wavefront guided treatments. Results: Mean values: Pre-op sphere:+2.25 D(+1.00 to +6.50) and cylinder: -1.25(o to -3.75). UCVA improved from 20/100 to 20/25. At 6 months, 88% of the eyes were at least 20/20 or better(with 27%: 20/15 and 12% : 20/10). 100% of the eyes were within 0.75D of the refractive goal at 6 months. 57% of the eyes gained at least 1 line of BCVA. No complications were noted in this group. There was a mean +0.32 regression in the spherical correction noted in between months 1 and 12. Conclusions: Hyperopic LASIK utilizing the ALLEGRETO-WAVE excimer laser and the M2 microkeratome appears to be safe and effective in the correction of hyperia and hyperopic astigmatism. The post-operative results at 12 months are impressive for correction, improvement in BCVA and minimal regression.
