Abstract

Abstract: : Purpose: Hydroview (H60M, Bausch&Lomb)intraocular lens(IOL) has a optic of a hydrophilic material. We experienced the case which needed to explant H60M IOL caused by optic opacification. The explanted IOL had been kept in the physiological saline, we observed the optic opacification disappeared. We investigated whether the H6OM has the function of drug delivery. Methods: 1. Five or six sheets of the fluorescein paper put in H60M container, and we observed pigmentary permeability after 24 hours. 2. Room temperature, under light shielding, the drug treatment H60M which was immersed in 0.5%LVFX eye drop for 24 hours and the un-treatment H60M were prepared. An inoculum of 10(8) cfu/ml was made from Escherichia coli (ATCC25922). An inoculum 0.1cc were applied to the heart infusion agar. The drug treatment H60M and un-treatment H60M, each was stood in the agar after washing. We observed after 24 hours culture at 35 degrees C. Results: 1.H60M dyed in the fluorescein was observed. 2.In the agar which stood the drug treatment H60M, there was the formation of the inhibition circle. Conclusions: It was confirmed that the water-soluble drug permeated at H60M and that it released it gradually. H60M seemed to have the possibility as drug delivery IOL.
