Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of the Wavelight ALLEGRETTO-WAVE aberrometer cycloplegic refraction data to our routine subjective cycloplegic refraction in our LASIK patient workup. Methods: 284 consecutive eyes, of 142 patients that were evaluated to undergo LASIK were analysed using the Wavelight ALLEGRETTO-WAVE aberrometer. The predicted refraction by the analyzer that was measured during cycloplegia was compared to our standard cycloplegic refraction by phoropter. We evaluated the difference of the two measurements in regard to: amount of spherical equivalent, amount of sphere, amount of cylinder and cylinder axis. Results: The mean difference between the measurements Wavelight ALLEGRETTO-WAVE aberrometer and the cycloplegic refraction were: Spherical equivalent: -0.25D (+/_ 0.12), Sphere:-0.21 D (+/_ 0.08D), Cylinder: -0.24 D (+/_ 0.18) and axis : 4 degrees ((+/_ 7 degrees). Two highly myopic eyes were excluded due to inability to obtain an analyser measurement. Conclusion: The Wavelight WAVEFRONT analyzer appears to be a very precise instrument in the cycloplegic refraction measurement prior to LASIK. The stunning accuracy it offers in refraction measurement may be helpful in confirmation of pre-operative refraction measurements prior to LASIK.
