Abstract
Abstract: :
Purpose:To evaluate the effect of brimonidine tartrate(Alphagan) on halo and pupil size in LASIK patients. Methods:14 LASIK patients with symptomatic night vision difficulties where enrolled in our study. Pupil size was checked with Colvard pupillometer and quantitative analysis of post-operative halo was done with a new computerized method. Both pupil size and halo were checked under 2 luminance conditions, scotopic and normal room light. Alphagan was administered to each patients and effect was measured after 30minutes, 1, 6, 12, and 24 hours. Results:Both pupil size and halo size decreased significantly after 30 minutes and lasted until 12 hours after Alphagan instillation(p<0.05). Mean halo size before Alphagan administration were 1688 and 2459 under normal room and scotopic conditions, respectively. 6 hours after alphagan administration halo size were reduced to 31% and 35% in room and scotopic lumination, respectively. Halo size return to 67% and 71% of the original size after 24 hours. Conclusion:Brimonidine tartrate effectively reduces halo and pupil size in lasik patients with symptoms of night vision problems.
