Abstract

Abstract: : Purpose: The specific aim of this study is to determine the incidence and pathway of the cryptococcal chorioretinitis in AIDS patients in Taiwan. Method: From April 1992 to Feb.2001, we survey of 359 HIV-infected patients. Opportunistic cryptococcal infection including chorioretinitis was reviewed and the specimens of cryptococcal chorioretinitis were diagnosed by fundus or histopathological findings. Results: A total of 6 cases(1.6%) of cryptococcal choroiretinitis were diagnosed and selected from 359 HIV-infected patients. Direct access to eye from nasopharynx cryptococcomas prior to cryptococcal pneumonia was impressive. Conclusion: Our findings supported that cryptococcal chorioretinitis was rare with different and distinct infection pathway.
