Abstract

Abstract: : Purpose:Comparison of the visual outcomes of two matched groups of patients treated with LASIK on the LADARVision or the VISX S3 Excimer Laser. Methods:The initial 100 patients treated with the LADARVision who also could have been treated with the VISX S3 were matched with the last 100 patients treated with the VISX S3 that could also have been treated with the LADARVision were analyzed for visual outcomes, i.e., UCVA, gain or loss of acuity lines, predictability, and stability. Results:Analysis of the data suggests that the visual outcomes resulting from treatment with the LADARVision are superior in hyperopic and hyperopic astigmatic patients compared to the results with the VISX S3. Outcomes for myopic patients demonstrate less difference and have not yet reached statistical significance. Conclusion:LASIK results on patients with hyperopia or hyperopic astigmatism appear to be superior with the LADARVision as compared to the VISX S3 Laser. Difference in outcomes for myopic patients may reach statistical significance as we gather more data; however, the differences appear to be less dramatic than those for hyperopic patients.
