Abstract

Presentation Description : Macroautophagy is required to maintain neuronal health and function. The turnover of aggregated proteins and dysfunctional organelles is required to maintain homeostasis. Recent progress using live cell imaging has identified novel pathways for both constitutive autophagy along the axon and selective removal of damaged mitochondria via mitophagy. The underlying mechanisms and the role of these dynamics in maintaining neuronal health will be discussed.

This is an abstract that was submitted for the 2016 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in Seattle, Wash., May 1-5, 2016.
