Abstract

Presentation Description : The Sensory Trauma Division at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research has a diverse research portfolio that encompasses applied pre-clinical and clinical research solutions for the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. This presentation will provide the unique perspective of an academically-trained research scientist who transitioned into the realm of battlefield trauma treatment research. The discussion will include the basics on how a U.S. Army researcher captures internal funding to begin a line of research, how the research should align with the needs of the military, and the types of partnerships and collaborations that a DoD researcher strives to establish.

This is an abstract that was submitted for the 2018 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 29 - May 3, 2018.
