Abstract

Purpose : To evaluate vascular pattern and flow changes following photodynamic fherapy (PDT) for choroidal tumors using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A).

Methods : This is a retrospective analysis of multimodal imaging of patients undergoing PDT for choroidal tumors. Imaging included Fluorescein and Indocyanine Green Angiography, Color and Autofluorescence as well as OCT-A imaging (Optovue RTVue XR Avanti (Optovue, Inc, Fremont, CA)).

Results : Seven eyes of 7 patients treated with Veteporfin mediated PDT for choroidal tumors (5 hemangioma, 1 amelanotic melanoma, 1 metastatic tumor) were evaluated. Image analysis pre- and post treatment revealed changes primarily in the choriocapillais (CC). One month following treatment, decreased density of smaller choroidal vessels was noted in all patients. Some of these changes seemed to be reversible on longer follow-up (> 3 months). While the number of cases did not allow to quantify dose-dependent changes, double fluenec PDT (100J/cm2) and repeated treatment may result in more profound vascular alterations.

Conclusions : OCT-A could be potentially useful in evaluating the therapeutic response and guiding dosimetry in patients undergoing PDT for choroidal tumors.
