Presentation Description : The transparent nature of the mouse eye offers unique advantages for in vivo visualisation and ex vivo imaging of ocular tissue. Combined with the use of fluorescent reporter mice, these techniques enable exquisite imaging of ocular inflammation and immune cells in various disease models. The use multi-modal fundus imaging in particular has significantly improved our understanding of the pathogenesis of mouse models of uveitis, including experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) and endotoxin-induced uveitis (EIU). Using a range of reporter mice (Cx3cr1-gfp/+, LysM-eGFP, CD11c-eYFP) and a combination of in vivo and ex vivo imaging, our laboratory has characterised the dynamic nature of inflammatory changes during EAU and EIU. This presentation will discuss these findings and highlight the potential role of specific immune cell subsets in driving disease pathogenesis.
