Abstract

Presentation Description : This presentation will examine the use of state-of-the-art in vivo microscopy techniques such as two-photon and spinning disk confocal microscopy for the discovery of novel behaviours of immune cells in the renal microvasculature. The actions of immune cell subsets including neutrophils, monocytes, T cells and antigen-presenting cells in the glomerular microvasculature will be described under both resting conditions, and following an inflammatory stimulus. The key findings presented will include description of 1) an intravascular mode of vessel injury mediated by both neutrophils and monocytes, and 2) a novel form of intravascular antigen presentation to CD4+ T cells that initiates glomerular injury.

This is an abstract that was submitted for the 2018 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 29 - May 3, 2018.
