Abstract

Presentation Description : This talk will review how the environment can modify genomic structure directly via formation of mosaics and alterations in telomere length. It will also review the biostatistical meaning of a gene X environment interaction. Data regarding how the relation between common body mass index (BMI) gene variants and obesity is modified by several lifestyle factors will be presented. This knowledge could be a powerful tool to motivate adherence to a healthy lifetsyle that translates into a normal BMI. Finally this talk will review how discovery of gene X environment interactins provide powerful insights into ophthalmic disease and can lead to cost effective primary prevention measures.

This is an abstract that was submitted for the 2018 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 29 - May 3, 2018.
