Abstract

Presentation Description : We report the first clinical results with photovoltaic sub-retinal prosthesis (PRIMA, Pixium Vision) in patients with advanced dry age-related macular degeneration. Wireless subretinal implant of 2x2mm in size and 30 micrometers in thickness is powered by near-infrared light, which enables relatively simple implantation in the central macula for restoration of central vision in patients with geographic atrophy. We will describe the anatomical and functional results in the first five patients with implants having 100 micrometer pixels, as well as the perspectives of further improvement in resolution with smaller pixels.

This abstract was presented at the 2019 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in Vancouver, Canada, April 28 - May 2, 2019.
