Abstract

Purpose : To compare the imaging area between the ultra-wide field scanning laser ophthalmoscope, Optos® 200Tx (Optos) and the new ultra-wide field scanning laser ophthalmoscope, CLARUS® 500 (CLARUS).

Methods : Twenty-three eyes of 20 cases underwent ultra-wide field retinal image using Optos and CLARUS. Single image was obtained by Optos. Single, two, or four direction images were obtained by CLARUS. The single image, montage image of two direction images, or montage image of four direction images by the CLARUS were superimposed on the single image of Optos in each eye and measured the area of CLARUS and Optos respectively. The area ratio (single, montage of two images, or montage of four images by CLARUS/single by Optos) were calculated.

Results : The mean area ratio (single CLARUS/single Optos) was 0.61 (n=22). The mean area ratio (montage of the two images by CLARUS/single Optos) was 0.83 (n=7), and the mean area ratio (montage of the four images by CLARUS/single Optos) was 1.08 (n=7).

Conclusions : CLARUS can obtain the almost same size of images as Optos by making montage of four direction images.
